Berkeley Home and Safety Repair Program
istock_000004909884small._200px.jpgCESC has provided home repair services to the Berkeley community since 1989 through the Berkeley Home Safety and Repair Program (formerly known as BHR). The goal of the program is to provide high quality, major and minor, health, safety, security, and resource efficiency repairs to low-income homeowners of Berkeley.  For those elderly and/or disabled, the program strives to give residents an option to continue to live in their homes by providing a healthy and safe environment to foster independent living for as long as they choose.  For other low-income homeowners, it provides the help they need to remain in their homes and keeps our community richly diverse.

Eligible customers are entitled to FREE services including: plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs; heater and minor roof repairs; mobility and access installations (grab bars, hand rails, lifts, ramps, etc.); and fire and earthquake safety measures (does not include seismic retrofitting), window bar replacement, smoke and CO detectors, etc.. Residents not eligible for free repairs can enjoy quality services at a reasonable fee-for-service basis.

CESC is a licensed general contractor and has an in-house crew of conscientious, considerate, quality-minded workers to take care of your home repair needs. For homeowners, CESC is funded through the City of Berkeley by HUD Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

CESC works hand in hand with other community groups such as Center for Independent Living, Re-Building Together (formerly Christmas in April), City and State Weatherization, Visiting Nurses Association, California Youth Energy Services (CYES), and many others. These partnerships serve as gateways to an abundance of services for our customers.
