is a partial list of local recyclers of fluorescent lamps and
ballasts. The Smart Lights Program is providing this list as a
courtesy and does not necessarily endorse these vendors or their
prices. It is important to recycle your fluorescent lamps and
ballasts, as they do contain toxic substances: fluorescent lamps
contain mercury, and older ballasts may contain PCBs. California
state law requires that PCB-containing ballasts be handled,
transported, and disposed of as hazardous waste. Please note
that the law regarding disposal of any fluorescent lamps and
ballasts has changed as of February 2006: disposal of any
quantity of fluorescent lamps and ballasts in your garbage
container is now prohibited. These items must be properly
recycled as hazardous waste.
