We already have fluorescent lights that work fine.
Besides the improved light color and elimination of buzzing and flicker, new fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts are lower in wattage. Every lamp and ballast you replace with new, efficient equipment will save you money in both energy costs and reduced maintenance.

For the typical business that has lights on for 10 hours per day, six days a week, this means each 2-lamp fixture will save nearly 118 kilowatt hours a year, every year. [(35 watts saved x 10 hours/day x 6 days/week x 56 weeks/year) divided by 1,000 watts per kW = 117.6 kWh] For a site with 50 fixtures, the savings would be 5,880 kWh, or about $940.00 per year (at an average $0.16 per kWh).

Upgrading lighting systems from incandescent lights or older fluorescent lights is a sound investment.

Energy Tips

Update your exit signs.  Many older exit signs still use incandescent bulbs.  Newer exit signs use LED technology, consuming approximately 1/10th the energy of an older sign and lasting 10's of 1000's of hours longer.  For enhanced safety, consider getting LED exit signs with emergency back-up batteries and safety lamps.
